Harrowing is carried out in spring and sometimes again in autumn to coincide with peaks in the grass growing season. We use a spring tine rather than regular chain harrow which improves the benefits to your grassland.

  • Pulls out dead grass (thatch), lightly rooted weeds and moss, aerating the sward and encouraging the grass to spread and establish.

  • Scarifies the surface of the soil to allow water to penetrate freely rather than run off.

  • Has a reasonable effect of leveling small bumps in a paddock where horses or cattle have stood and churned the soil when it was soft.

  • Breaks up manure which has been deposited in clumps and allows the manure to fertilise the paddock evenly.

  • Very cost effective and the improvement in the condition of the padlock is usually visible within days.
